Poetry of John Shaw

      Mona Lisa

Behind glass, viewers pass and bask in her glow
each falling in love with her more than the one before
for to each she smiles enchanting each to smile back
They do, and as if a crack between two worlds a relationship forms
a river of pure beauty flows between canvas and soul the two are bound
      but beauty is the limit
for no matter how so her smile
no man will feel her heart beat and blood flow
no man will ever know her as lovers only know
      for she exists worlds apart
However beautiful, no man can caress a work of art
