      Defense Mechanism

      1986

      Once I laid sleeping and
      silently weeping of a love
      once lost once

For back in my youth when I
      was a self contained group
of my self and my druthers
my fears and a few others
      they'd all crowd around
      and start bringing me down
      they'd lay heavy and thin
      and then they'd begin by
ripping and tearing without even caring

I'd let them all do it for
I knew I'd get through it
and when I was I'd be strong having learnt to get along
      and that would be that
      more right than more wrong
